Doctoral thesis defence of the Faculty of Management and Finance graduate
We proudly announce that Mr. Michał Falkowski, a graduate of the Faculty of Management and Finance, defended his doctoral thesis "The influence of hedge funds on systemic risk" and was awarded PhD degree in economic sciences in the discipline of finance by the Council of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management at the University of Szczecin.
The work was created under the scientific supervision of Professor Piotr Szczepankowski.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Michał Falkowski is not only a theoretician. Our graduate has been working in globally operating investment banks in London for a several years, gaining invaluable experience in creating scientific work. Short story of his success is presented in following Q&A.
When was the first time you fell for the world of finance?
It was sudden. I remember that before I chose my major I was already fascinated with foreign business TV stations, such as Bloomberg TV. I really wanted to understand what was the meaning of the things experts were saying.
You successfully run your own consulting business in London and probably do not desperately need to occupy excess time – where did you get the idea for a PhD?
The thought of doctorate appeared during my studies and it was partly due to lecturers who conducted classes for us. I had a great pleasure to work on my BA thesis under the supervision of Professor Maria Sierpińska, who at that time, at this early stage of my studies, tried to encourage students to continue their education and carry out research.
What are the things that students who want to be not only good theoreticians, but also operate effectively on the world’s financial markets, should remember about?
If I were to give any advice, I would definitely suggest being open to new experiences and setting ambitious goals. It's a simple recipe, but the world of finance is open to everyone who is not afraid of challenges and hard work.
